'Empreita de palma' is an ancient basket weaving technique and cultural heritage from the Algarve in Portugal. Palm leaves from the Palmeira-anã are harvested, dried in the sun during a month and turned into baskets, carpets, brooms, lampshades,...
In this workshop you'll get to know more about the plant and this traditional basket weaving technique, the harvesting and drying process and so on. You'll learn the different steps of the technique, from braiding the palm leaves to shaping them into a little basket.
Your teacher of the day is Ysaline from Atelier Balancê. After spending a few months in the Brazilian Amazon learning with local basket weavers, she moved to Portugal where she continued exploring the art of basket weaving and learned local techniques such as 'empreita de palma'.
